About Us
Who we are
We’re a research-focused Trust with excellence in chronic diseases (particularly oncology, gastroenterology, diabetes and muscular skeletal conditions), paediatrics, older peoples’ medicine, platform technologies relating to radiology and advanced imaging and microbiology. We know that by being a research active Trust, this means better care for all of our patients. One of the main goals of the Trust is: “To be a centre of excellence for research.”
NNUH hosts hundreds of clinical research studies every year, recruiting on average 4000+ participants. More than 200 doctors, nurses, health professionals and administrators are involved in clinical research, ensuring that the benefits of new treatments, drugs and therapies translate from the research laboratory directly into clinical practice.
Research Strategy
Our Research Strategy 2020-2025 provides our focus on four goals:
- Embed a culture of research, creating an inspirational environment that is recognised nationally and internationally which inspires future leaders of clinical research
- Consolidate and deepen the special partnership with the University of East Anglia (UEA) and Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB)
- Develop sustainable strategic partnerships critical to the region and wider NHS
- Be recognised as a leading NHS Trust in applying research and adopting innovation to deliver the best patient care and to benefit the wider NHS.
We undertake high-quality, high-value research that’s important to healthcare worldwide. We align our research with our vision for patient care, and we address the challenges facing our hospital such as the length of time that patients stay in hospital.
Our Research Strategy positions us to take a role in leading and driving research locally, nationally and internationally.
Norwich Research Park
We’re part of the Norwich Research Park (NRP) which has an international reputation for research in food, diet and health. Included in the NRP is the University of East Anglia (UEA). As a teaching hospital, NNUH works closely with UEA’s Medical School and School of Health Sciences, which incorporates nursing and midwifery. This enables staff at NNUH to work with a range of researchers locally and beyond to deliver innovative and collaborative research for our patients.
The Quadram Institute (QI) brings together researchers, academics and NHS clinicians to address global challenges in human health, food and disease. The QI is home to world-leading researchers making discoveries in the gut microbiome, food and health, alongside the region’s Endoscopy Centre which provides outstanding NHS clinical care. Researchers and clinicians work together on research studies to learn more about how we can improve human health.
